The temple, a spiritual and cultural centre of Pune, attracts people of all ages. If you want to devote yourself to the supreme God, this is the right place to be.

Once you enter the temple, you’ll be amazed by the artistic architecture, beautiful paintings, elegant prayer halls, and the idols of Lord Krishna and Radha. All the carvings on the wall and paintings will narrate the story of Indian Mythologies. For those who wish to break the monotony of life and bring back peace at home, ISKCON NVCC Temple is the best place to be.

History of ISKCON NVCC Temple

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), also known as the Hare Krishna Movement, established over 500 temples, centres, and communities across the world. The purpose of this movement was to educate people about the consciousness of the Supreme God and bring more devotees closer together to live a simple, natural life.

With this purpose, ISKCON established the NVCC or the New Vedic Cultural Centre in Pune, Kondhwa. Although the NVCC temple was inaugurated recently in 2013 by the then President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, its origin story dates back to nearly 1995.

In Pune, the first-ever ISKCON centre was established in 1984. Over time, many people started visiting, and the temple activities expanded. Thus, more space was needed for the temple. And in 1995, ISKCON guru HH Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj purchased the NVCC land of 6 acres to initiate the temple project. The New Vedic Cultural Center was built at 40 crore rupees and has seen almost seven years of construction. It was first opened to the public on the auspicious occasion of Nityananda Tryodshi.

The ISKCON NVCC, one of the largest temples in Pune, is a spiritual and cultural landmark. The temple represents the ideals of Vedic scriptures, including the Bhagavad Gita. And the ultimate purpose of this temple is to help people develop a loving relationship with the Supreme God, Krishna.

The Architecture of ISKCON NVCC Temple

Like any other ISKCON temple, you will feel the calm and divine surroundings after entering the NVCC temple. The amazing structure of the religious centre is made from pure marble.

Once you enter the temple premise, you can see two Gopis (cow-herd girls) are engaged in each pillar. There is also an elephant structure engraved at the base of the pillars. Inside the temple, the “Hare Krishna Hare Rama” chant is engraved on each pillar. The gold embossed altar doors and transparent marble flooring of the temple create a serene atmosphere.

Inside the NVCC temple, you will notice a lotus-shaped dome at the ceiling. The dome represents Goloka Vrindavan in the spiritual sky. It has 3D paintings of Radha Krishna and eight Gopis in each of the petals of the dome.

The ISKCON NVCC Temple complex has two main temples- Radha Krishan and Venkateswar temple. The architecture of the Radha-Vrindavanchandra temple closely resembles the North Indian temple style. The architectural inspiration of the Venkateswara or Lord Balaji Mandir is the famous Tirupati temple. Needless to say, it typically represents South Indian culture. The Balaji temple is constructed with red stone and marble. The temple is built using Kota Stone.

Inside the temple, a grand mediation hall is constructed to accommodate over 1000 people at once. The Prasadam hall is also built in a large space to accommodate at least 1000 people. The cultural hall of the temple is made for hosting special occasions and celebrations.
