About the garden

Built and maintained by the Pune Municipal Corporation, this garden was opened to the public in the year 2002 on 31st October. The garden is dedicated to Shahid Major Pradeep Tathawade who was martyred fighting the Poonch militant attack in June 2000 in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

A life-size statue of the warrior speaks of his glory welcoming every visitor right at the entrance and opening itself to a serene and lush green garden. The garden is spread over 2.75acres and also adorns a 260 meter long jogging track for fitness lovers. There are several other attractions within the garden like fountains, a yoga center etc.

Key attractions in the garden

1. Children’s play area: A fun place for children to visit, this park has a huge play area for kids with various slides and swings under the cool shade of a variety of trees.

2. Yoga center: Shahid Major Pradeep Tathawade Udyan possesses one of the best outdoor locations for practicing yoga. The open air yoga center situated in the midst of a variety of trees and lush green garden gives the most peaceful and close to nature experience to all yoga lovers.

3. Stage facing lawn: The garden is thronged by visitors and spectators throughout the year for various events hosted at the central stage. The spectators can enjoy various cultural events that keep taking place from time to time, sitting on the lush green lawn facing the stage.

4. A diverse collection of trees: Another remarkable feature of this amazing garden is the variety of trees it has. Indigenous trees like peepal, mango, banyan, cherry, neem, jamun, amia, Kanchan, palash, bel, bamboo and many more are planted here. Along with this, there is a wide range of flower bearing bushes as well. Roses, dahlia, marigold, zinnia, chamak, hibiscus, jai-jui, jasmine along with plenty of bougainvillea can be seen.

5. Water fountains and a pond: Another beloved spot for kids is the artificial pond located in the center of the garden. There are various fishes in the pond bringing this serene garden alive. Kids can be seen catching a glimpse of their favorite fish and enjoying their time around.

6. Pakistani war tank: Another major attraction in this garden is the legendary war tank that stands amidst the lush greens and speaks highly of our ever-glorious Indian Army and its sacrifices for the nation. The tank was gifted by the Indian Army to the Pune Municipal Corporation.

Entry Fee and Timings of Shahid Major Pradeep Tathawade Udyan Pune

The visitor timings for the park are 6:00 am to 10:00 am and 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on all days.

The PMC charges a very nominal entry fee of 50p for children and Re.1 for adults.

• Visitors are advised to carry water and snacks while visiting the park as there are no stalls and vendors available outside or inside the premises.
• Also, pets and outdoor games are not allowed here.
